Eastern Shore Association of Golf Course Superintendents - Golf Results
Welcome to the 2011 ESAGCS Golf Season. Once again we have a great slate of courses to play throughout the region. I am sure by now, all your off-season workouts and training have you limber and ready to tee it up for this year’s first tournament at Chester River Yacht and Country Club, hosted by Matt Kruekill. We’ll start the tournaments off with a Florida Two-Man Scramble.
April’s meeting brings us across the bridge to Chartwell Country Club. Although not necessarily a course located on the Eastern Shore, host superintendent and Eastern Shore resident, Steve Sweiderk, has been a long time member of the ESAGCS and is looking forward to us bringing our “Shore Good” qualities to his course.
Our ESAGCS Individual Championship begins in Bridgeville, Delaware at Heritage Shores. Once again, this Championship consists of two out of the best three rounds in which round three is required to be crowned Champion. Round two will held at White Clay Creek in conjunction with the Philadelphia Association of Golf Course Superintendents. This tournament will also be a 4 Man Best Ball Blind Draw with two members from each organization paired together. The final round will bring us back to the Ocean City area on Glen Riddle’s Man-o-War course.
In August we will take a break from the grueling competition and relax and eat some of the Eastern Shores finest crabs at our annual venue, Hog Neck in Easton, Md. The golf format will be the normal friendly scramble tournament.
The beginning of fall brings us to the “Jewel” of Cambridge, Maryland, Hyatt Rivermarsh. This is the site of the ESAGCS Superintendent/Pro tournament. This has been a highly contested tournament in the past for the Club’s coveted distinction of having the “Best Pair on the Shore” Our regular season closes at Baywood Greens for our Annual Invitational.
The 2011 Player of the Year will be sponsored again this year by Turf Trade. Details of the 2011 POTY can be found on the ESAGCS Website. There is now an upgraded golf section of our website ready to be filled with 2011 pictures, articles, monthly results, notes and standings. Please feel free to forward any material that you feel might be relevant to the website.
For all those feeling lucky (or skillful) that a hole-in-one might be on your horizon, Sports Aggregates will once again be sponsoring the Hole-In-One Challenge. We had a winner two years ago at Heritage Shores so we look forward to the challenge again this year.

A few house cleaning items.
•    The ESAGCS instituted a mandatory USGA handicap rule in 2010. It is still in effect and will continue in 2011. All may participate in the tournaments but only those with handicaps registered with the ESAGCS will be eligible for Net prizes.
•    Please register for golf and meeting by the registration deadline. Please include in the registration any desired golf pairings. First consideration for golf pairings is given to timely registrations.
•    Please be considerate to your playing partners and refrain from using cell phones on the course.
•    Look for updated Player of the Year standings each month in the Golf Notes on our ESAGCS Website

I look forward to a great 2011 season. Please thank all of our hosts for their willingness to host these events and the hard work that goes into preparing their courses for us. Also please recognize all of our vendor sponsors that make our meetings such a great success.

“Tee It Up and Respect the Game”

Respectfully,
Todd Cowing, ESAGCS Golf Chairman
